We would like to present you the fourth Sustainability Report of the company Distribuție Energie Oltenia and to invite you to discover in the following chapters the overview of 2020. When the world stopped, we continued to bring energy and power the homes of beneficiaries in the operational area, and as the global challenges became more visible, we confidentlyaccelerated towards sustainable change and stayed connected with people from our communities.
The role we have in society is one of strategic importance, and our concers in the context of the pandemic generated by COVID-19 have been closely linked to the continued supply of electricity and the responsibility we have towards employees, customers consuming energy, partners and the local community. The measures we took without hesitation from the beginning helped us to reduce the risks to a minimum: we were the first electricity distribution operator who suspended the activity of its User Care Centers, over 50% of all employees continued to work safely at home, and colleagues who worked in the field benefited from a safe environment. We have implemented a strengthened CSR program, providing real support to the health system, online education and vulnerable groups. The investment in social responsibility projects was 878,526 LEI.
We have integrated innovation and digitalization in all the area of our activity: we have advanced in the implementation of the SMART metering project in Craiova, by installing the 10,000 meters and equipping 32 substations, we tested new solutions for automation and monitoring of the low and medium voltage network from Teleorman and Dolj Counties, within the SOGNO international project, we continued the investments in all the 7 Counties in which we carry out our activity. Moreover, at the beginning of the year we announced that approximately 59 million EURO, from own financial sources and co-financing from European Funds will be invested in important sectors: SMART metering, modernization of transformer stations and low and medium voltage networks, implementation of an Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), an Advanced Power
Asset Management System (AMS) and an integrated SMART Grid Connect system.
At the same time, we continued to invest in the training of students in the Electrician Apprentice program, and 19 young graduates began their careers with us and our partners.
Moreover, last year we made the transition from the Sustainable Development Goals to a ten-year strategy, which will better shape the efforts we make constantly to meet local and international challenges.
