We present our fifth sustainability report, which transparently highlights the achievements and challenges of 2021 and tracks our natural transformation as a team.
In our 16 years of activity in Romania, we have strengthened our role in the local economy and raised quality and innovation standards in the sector. We have taken on the role of catalysing the energy of the future, we remain the same people of facts, but are confidently entering a different phase. In March, Macquarie Asset Management - the world's largest infrastructure manager and part of the Macquarie Group became our new shareholder.
We have started to build a business model with a key player with extensive experience, a long-term investment vision and strong sustainability principles. Today, Macquarie Asset Management has 12.5 GW of renewable energy capacity and 200,000 kilometres of electricity distribution networks in Australia, Austria, Finland, Spain and the United States in its investment portfolio. From the outset, senior representatives have stressed the importance of targets that will play a key role in transforming the energy system. These include a robust, sustainable energy infrastructure to facilitate Romania's growing electrification and its transition to a low-carbon economy.
Long-term sustainability commitments strengthen our track record and are a natural response to the climate, economic and social crisis. In the near future, our investments and portfolio management will be based on the transition to Net Zero Emissions.
Our role in society is one of strategic importance, which is why all our actions are coming together to support this: we started a pilot project to install photovoltaic plants with an installed capacity of about 70 kW in two of our transformer stations, to cover internal energy consumption and improve the quality of energy distributed to consumers; with an investment of about 4 million euros, we completed the GIS digital map of the low voltage electricity distribution network in Oltenia; we continued to modernize the electricity networks throughout the operational area and invested 713,423 LEI in social responsibility projects, including Ucenic Electrician - a programme that has aimed since 2016 to train the future generation of electricians in southern Romania, promoting diversity and bringing together 43 interns and 16 young employees.
